Before you ask, MTOI is My Take On It. It is a part of the new column series I’m starting, right here on my blog!
***
I met a few friends at a local hang out joint yesterday and caught the last three goals Germany scored. I did however, miss The Goal That Wasn’t!
Its not me to go around cheering for a team and rejoicing or sulking if it wins or loses. However, if I do get a chance to watch a game live or in the stadium, I tend to support the team that doesn’t have a clear majority in my group.
Simply put, yesterday I supported Germany, for the heck of it and it was worth it. I may not understand the finer nuances of the game, but it’s ok for me to indulge in it on such occassions.
The goal that wasn’t awarded was probably the reason for England’s loss yesterday but many German fans believe their team would have kicked ass anyway!
Surprisingly enough, I do support the ‘German fan’ theory. Even if England was awarded that goal, I’m still quite sure of their loss. The mental trauma they underwent is probably incalculable at such a huge event but then again, they could have used the unfair decision to their advantage and put in all that frustration into scoring some goals.
I am no expert at football, but I did see how England’s play, towards the end of the match was just a mere formality. They played not to win, but because they couldn’t walk away!
